THE CITY OF HAVERHILL, is located in Essex County in the northeastern part of Massachusetts, approximately 23 miles north of Boston, borders New Hampshire to its north and is roughly 18 miles from the eastern seashore. Located on the banks of the Merrimack River, Haverhill was once a thriving community of shoe and textile factories, which today has turned these magnificent historic buildings into a multi-cultural downtown area for many restaurants, salons, bakeries, galleries and coffee shops. The east part of Haverhill has many middle to higher income homes in a more rural setting with farms and conservation lands. The middle and western part of Haverhill is where the more affordable areas lie with single family, multi-family and rental income housing are readily available. Haverhill is bisected by two major highway systems, Routes 93 and 495, and a number of secondary roadways including Routes 28, 133, 114 and 125 with easy access to Boston, the North Shore, New Hampshire or the seashore. The city of Haverhill has many quality schools and a wonderful community spirit. Haverhill has evolved into a great place to raise a family, and offers many outdoor activities such as boating, fishing in its many rivers, lakes and ponds, baseball, tennis, hiking and biking trails and its own ski area. It has also been able to sustain its real estate values even during sharp economical downturns making it a community worth considering to live in.
