About North Andover

Located twenty-four miles northwest of Boston, North Andover is emerging as a highly sought-after residential community. This historic town has grown considerable in the past few years but the townspeople pride themselves on maintaining a rural flavor.

The historically significant Olde Center adjoining North Andover Green typifies a New England town of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The country store built in 1828, Hayscales Exchange and other quaint establishments are favorite gathering places for local people. The Town Green comes alive with activity during the many town gatherings planned during the warmer seasons.

Like Andover, North Andover’s beginnings go back to Indian settlements. During the late 1600s, settlers of English descent began establishing farming and fur trapping outposts along the Merrimack and Shawsheen Rivers. In the early 1700s the South Parish and North Parish broke apart, eventually to become the towns of Andover and North Andover.

Lake Cochickewick, site of the original settlement of the Andovers and presently the town’s water supply is the focal point of North Andover. In the winter the two mile long lake is frequented by skaters and summer months find anglers of all ages along its shores. Great Pond Road travels close to the shoreline and is the setting for elegant estate-like homes, some of which have been passed from generation to generation of Old North Andover families.
