Welcome to Haverhill, MA in the heart of the Merrimack Valley. Our beautiful
city features the older grandeur side by side with 21st century technology. The
wonderful downtown area gives you that feeling of turn of the century America
with all the modern amenities. Haverhill was once a shoe manufacturing capital
and the factories have been converted, but retain their old world look. Many of
the grand colonial and Victorian homes of a bygone era dot the landscape. A new
cyber district has been established in Haverhill for companies that work in the
internet and telecommunications industries creating new jobs for the citizens of
the city.
Consisting of 36 square miles Haverhill is the largest city in Essex
County on land area. Haverhill has a mix of neighborhoods from inner city
to county club communities. New sub-divisions are being built to keep up
with the demand for housing in the area. There are still active farms that
raise small herbs to large herefords and everything in between.
Family
entertainment can be found at the Bradford Ski Hill, Round Pond, Skateland, or
at any one of the many festivals (Kidfest, Septemberfest, the Christmas Stroll
etc.). The Merrimac River bisects the city and is used for fishing and
boating. There are also nature trails that follow along the banks of the
river. Major ski areas, beaches and entertainment centers are all within a 1
hour drive of this great city.
Haverhill is a commuter's paradise. The commuter rail has 2 stops, Route
495 has 5 exits and Boston is only 40 minutes away. Many high technology
and tele-communication firms make their home in the Merrimack Valley including
Lucent Technologies, Hewlett Packard and CMGI to name a few.
Affordability is the key word for housing in Haverhill, MA. There are
one-bedroom studio condos all the way up to five bedroom executive homes.
Housing prices start around $25,000 and go up to $500,000, so there is something
for everybody.
The Haverhill School system consists of 1 high school, 1 vocational high school,
4 middle schools and 17 elementary schools. There are also 2 Catholic elementary
schools in the city.
