About Andover

Andover is one of the most picturesque towns in Massachusetts. Andover offers a unique blend of historical charm, modern housing and a thriving downtown. Housing includes delightful Colonial homes dating back to the late 17th century, stately Victorians on tree-lined streets, mansions of the Industrial Era as well as beautiful modern family neighborhoods.

A typical New England town with wide, tree-lined streets and white steepled churches, Andover treasures its 350-year Yankee history. The original town, was incorporated in 1646 and is today a bustling community with a balance of friendly residential neighborhoods, a prestigious academic community and a number of high-tech industries. The old saw, grist and textile mills are now home to medical research and computer technology companies as well as travel agencies and shopping malls. The land whose beginnings go back to Indian settlements is now ribboned with highways and dotted with homes and businesses.

Andover is a young community; 60% of the population falls between the ages of 15 and 44. Also, 60% of all households report incomes of $50,000 or more. With a well-educated, highly skilled work force employed in diverse industries, the economic base is sound. The unemployment rate is a scant 4%.

Andover is the home of world-renowned Phillips Academy, which draws exceptional students from around the world. Residents enjoy its campus attractions including the Addison Gallery of Art, its Bird Sanctuary, Cochoran Chapel, skating rink and cultural activities.

A priority in education extends to the public school system with one or more Massachusetts top ratings.  Recreational opportunities abound! A beach at Pomp's Pond and Harold Parker State Forest for fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling, hiking and camping are nearby. Enjoy 430 acres of well-maintained A.V.I.S. (Andover Village Improvement Society) nature trails.

Andover has a wealth of civic, charitable, recreational and youth organizations. Its senior center is well-attended.

Andover continues to serve as a thriving business center in the state. A growing number of high tech, industrial and medical technology enterprises have chosen Andover for its location and hospitality.

Situated along Routes 93, 495 and 114, Andover is an ideal location for residents needing access to Boston, western Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire or southern Maine.
